Self Publishing and Visual Storytelling

Spend a day and a half with Simon Norfolk, Rob Hornstra and Zed Nelson exploring documentary filmmaking, self publishing, fine art commissions and the business of photography.
The first day (Saturday, May 14th) will take place at the London College of Communication, where all three photographers will deliver a series of seminars touching on such varied subjects as self publishing, documentary filmmaking, expanding beyond photojournalism, the business of being an artist, fine art photography, the long-form project, and working with different types of clients (editorial, commercial, cultural). The working day will start at 9am and continue through to 7pm.
The second half day (Sunday, May 15th) will take place at London's Tate Modern, where attendees will receive a personal tour of Simon Norfolk's new exhibition, "Simon Norfolk + John Burke" (which opens on May 7th, 2011). Attendees will be split up into one of 5 smaller private tours.
Workshop Location: London College of Communications (Elephant & Castle) and the Tate Modern Museum.

 Simon Norfolk is a landscape photographer whose work over the last ten years has been themed around a probing and stretching of the meaning of the word ‘battlefield.’ His subject matter ranges from the world's worst war zones and refugee crises, to supercomputers used to design military systems or test launches of nuclear missiles. He has been described by one critic as 'the leading documentary photographer of our time. Passionate, intelligent and political; there is no one working in photography that has his vision or his clarity.'
 Rob Hornstra (1975) has published five books on his own (Empty Land Promised Land Forbidden Land, On the Other Side of the Mountains, Sanatorium, 101 Billionaires, Roots of the Rúntur, Communism & Cowgirls) which, despite increasing print runs, sell out ever faster. Rob has had numerous (solo) exhibitions. He undertakes large long term documentary projects.
 Zed Nelson is an internationally renowned documentary photographer/film-maker who takes a conceptual approach to contemporary social issues. His publications, Gun Nation and Love Me, have won multiple awards and become regarded by many as the definitive body of work on each subject. His work has been exhibited at Tate Britain, the ICA and the National Portrait Gallery, and is in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. His first documentary film was nominated for a Grierson Award.
